Casa Marguery

Familia Marguery is committed to the production of high quality wines with the latest technological advances and in limited stocks.  Their wines are produced with selected grapes from old vineyards in Tupungato, La Consulta and Vistalba, Mendoza, Argentina. They seek to express a lifestyle, inherited from our ancestors, with a focus on responsability and a passion for our work.  Familia Marguery is owned by Marguery Wines Ltd. with offices in London, UK and Mendoza, Argentina.

Producing their wines, everything starts with the winter pruning taking into account the load of grapes in each vine left until thinning the bunches. The harvest is 7000 kgs per hectare approximately. They aim for low production of fruit, thorough management of irrigation, proper trimming of vegetation near the grapes, and carefull nurturing to aim for grapes with a high concentration of polyphenols.

Familia Marguery produces its wines in Cruz de Piedra, Maipú. With a capacity of 160,000 litres, the winery is equipped with stainless steel tanks and temperature controls, machine press, conveyor belt for selecting the grapes and latest generation of pumps.

Once the winemakers have decided upon the polyphenolic maturation of the grains early in the morning, the harvest, done by hand in 16 kilo-boxes, starts. At this stage, care is taken to ensure the grapes are clean, fresh and healthy when arriving at the winery. After selection, the grapes with no defects or rips are placed into a crushing machine which lightly squeezes them. The resulting mush of flesh, skins and juice is pumped into stainless steel tanks for the first fermentation to start. Cultured yeasts are added and temperature rises naturally up to 28°C, due to soft contact treatments for extracting sweet and mature tannins. Temperature is controlled between 20°C to 23°C till the end of the process. After 25/30 days of maceration, malolactic fermentation takes place. When this process finishes, the wine is finally stored in oak casks for 12 months.
